We will stay in the guest house operated by Favor of God, and we will spend time with teachers at the primary school and teachers and schools in the Gulu and Aber regions. We are open to making friends and lasting relationships that will sustain the hard work of improving education.
Students in northern Uganda typically sit one hundred to a classroom. One hundred to a teacher. The odds of getting attention and the support needed are overwhelming.
Over the last year, a partnership has been forming between The Grove Community Church, World Vision, and Favor of God ministries.
Riverside, California is currently our home. We see the children, families, and teachers in Gulu, Uganda, as our neighbors.
Inspired by a mission trip to Mazatlan, Mexico, where I served as a volunteer English tutor in 2006, I began to look for ways to engage in teacher professional development in other parts of the world that could not afford such training.
Moved by stories of northern Ugandan children who have suffered over the last twenty years, Darlene wants to serve these who have had lesser than others with the hope that they may come to understand a little more clearly their Godly richness and beauty.
Over the last 23 years, as many as 66,000 children have been abucted in northern Uganda, about 1.2 million children have been orphaned by AIDS in all of Uganda, and witch doctors also abduct children in their communities for use in human sacrifices.
